IntSAR is proud to announce the appointment of its inaugural Surgeon General – Dr. Ciro Bustos.
A brief biography of Rear Admiral Bustos:
Born in Valparaíso of Chile, son of Ciro Bustos and Ascensión Reyes, was educated in Patmos School of Viña Del Mar, with continued secondary studies in Escuela Naval Arturo Prat (Chilean Naval Academy) as a cadet.
After the academy, he went to Universidad de Valparaíso (public university), to undertake medicine studies to be a Physician in 2002. He concentrated on a surgical career following his studies in General Surgery in the first Hospital of the Chilean Navy: Hospital Naval Almirante Nef. This was his home for 19 years, with 10 years as a member of the reserve.
After General Surgery specialty, he undertook Plastic Surgery training for 6 years, in the Plastic Surgery Unit of the Hospital Naval Almirante Nef de Viña del Mar. He continued his surgical work in the biggest hospitals in the central region of Chile (Santiago y Valparaíso cities). With five years as a consultant in general and plastic surgery, he received the title of Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, with honors. Regarding trauma, he followed the learnings of the American College of Surgeons and Royal College of Surgeons.
His training was focused on trauma and reconstructions, developing surgery in the most recognized hospitals in Chile, also being a member of the Chilean Medical Council, Chilean College of Surgeons and American College of Surgeons while practicing both specialties on trauma patients.
Dr. Bustos puts focus on Humanitarian missions being part of Mèdicins Sans Frontières and hopes to help people in adverse environments.
